Canada, its location and its wide open spaces

Canada is a huge country, the second largest in the world, but with only just over 34 million inhabitants. They speak English and French. The capital is the city of Ottawa in Ontario. The country is over 5 000 km wide stretching from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean. The open spaces are huge and the lakes almost large enough to be considered inland seas. In the centre is the province of Quebec, typical of the American-Indian population. A visit to the Rocky Mountains is a must, if you're in the west of the country, near the Yukon. Visit Canada's protected sites

In Canada, there are several World Heritage sites recognised by UNESCO. Enjoy the many walking paths and discover these marvellous places. Visit the buffalo precipice Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump in Nova Scotia, and don't forget the Rocky Mountains, another extraordinary location. The Curtain canal, flowing from Ottawa in the north, to the port of Kingston on Lake Ontario in the south, is itself a pure masterpiece. The Grand-pré landscape, the fossil-bearing Joggins cliffs and the Old Lunenburg in Nova Scotia are two more remarkable Heritage Sites. The Miguacha National Park in Gaspésie and the Waterton Glacier International Peace Park are also well worth a visit.

Discover Canada's Niagara Falls

The Niagara Falls alone are worth the visit to Canada. They are located in the centre of the city and are the principal attraction of the region. These falls are huge and the power of the churning water is impressive. It's best to visit them early in the morning as there are always a large number of tourists at the site.
